Five Crowns starts innocently enough. A few cards. A few sets. Nothing complicated. Then the number of cards in your hand keeps climbing and suddenly everyone is staring at their cards like they are solving a particularly annoying puzzle.

This rummy-style game changes the number of cards you are holding every round and adds wild cards that keep things moving. You are building sets and runs while trying to finish with the lowest score, but the best part is how quickly people get comfortable enough to start playing again.

It is an excellent weekend rental for mixed-age groups because it is easy to teach without feeling like a kids-only game. Great for after dinner, a quiet morning, or keeping everyone entertained while waiting for the rest of the group to get ready. Small box, lots of replayability.
