Wild Card
A card that can stand in for any other card's suit or value, at the playing player's choice.
Detailed definition
A wild card breaks the normal rules of what a card is allowed to be. Play one, and you get to declare what it counts as on the spot — whatever suit or rank actually helps you, not whatever’s printed on its face. In games where matching or sequencing matters, that flexibility can bail out an otherwise dead hand.
Uno’s the card most people picture, but wilds show up well beyond it — some standard decks treat jokers as wild, and plenty of designer games build in their own version of the idea. The trade-off is usually built into the game itself: a wild card that saves you now is often worth fewer points, or costs you something else later, so it’s rarely a free win — just a well-timed one.
