Tabletop Gaming
The general hobby of board games, card games, and dice games played at a table, as opposed to on a screen.
Detailed definition
Tabletop gaming is the umbrella term for anything played face to face around a table — board games, card games, dice games, the whole spread — grouped together mainly by what they’re not: video games. Someone who says they’re “into tabletop” is telling you their hobby lives in physical boxes with pieces you can hold, not in an app.
The word does a lot of work covering a wide range, from a fifteen-minute card game to a sprawling hobby game with a shelf-sized box. That range is part of the appeal, and it’s also why it helps to be specific about what you actually want out of a night before picking something off the shelf. We rent across most of that range, so “I’m into tabletop gaming but don’t know where to start” is a completely normal way to open a conversation with us.
New to the hobby and not sure where to start?
