Table Talk

Players discussing strategy or hinting at their hands out loud during play — some games ban it, others depend on it.

Detailed definition

Table talk is any conversation about the game that happens while it’s actually being played — thinking out loud, asking a partner what they’d do, hinting at a hand without fully revealing it. Whether that’s welcome or against the rules depends entirely on the game, and getting it wrong is one of the fastest ways to accidentally ruin someone’s turn.

Cooperative and team games often lean on table talk as a core part of the experience; you’re supposed to talk your way to the best group decision. Bluffing games and social deduction games usually restrict it heavily or ban it outright, since the whole tension depends on what players choose not to say. Worth settling before the first hand is dealt, not after someone’s already spoiled a bluff by thinking out loud.
