GLOSSARY · Game Mechanics

Roll-and-Write

A game where players roll shared dice and mark the results on their own personal scoresheet.

Detailed definition

In a roll-and-write, the dice are shared but the sheet is yours alone. Someone rolls, and every player at the table decides how to use those same results on their own paper — crossing off a box, drawing a line, filling in a shape. You’re all working from identical information, but the choices you make with it are what separate a good scoresheet from a messy one.

Because everyone’s playing at once instead of waiting through individual turns, these move fast and scale easily to a bigger table without anyone sitting around bored. They’re also cheap on setup and cleanup, which makes them a solid pick for a weeknight when you want real strategy without committing the whole evening to it.
