GLOSSARY · Game Mechanics

Player Elimination

A design where a losing player can be knocked out of the game entirely before it ends for everyone else.

Detailed definition

Player elimination means exactly what it sounds like — if you lose enough ground, you’re removed from the game before it’s over, and you sit out while everyone else keeps playing. It shows up a lot in American-style games and older classics where combat or resource loss can knock a player fully out of the running.

It’s worth knowing about before game night starts, especially with kids or anyone who gets frustrated watching from the sidelines. Not every elimination game is harsh about it — some keep eliminated players involved in small ways — but if a smooth, everybody-plays-to-the-end night matters more to your group, it’s a detail worth checking on the listing first.

Okay with being out before the final round?
