GLOSSARY · Game Mechanics
Party Game
A quick-to-learn, social game built for a big, loud group rather than deep individual strategy.
Detailed definition
Party games are built for the room, not the rulebook. Setup is fast, the explanation takes a minute or two at most, and the fun comes from the people at the table rather than a deep strategic decision tree. Guessing, performing, arguing over a rule that doesn’t really matter — that’s the actual game, and it scales well as more friends pull up chairs.
They’re the easiest genre to bring newcomers into, since nobody’s at a disadvantage for not knowing the hobby. Just know they tend to run on the louder end — check the sensory level on a listing if you’re planning around younger kids’ bedtimes or a quieter house that night.
