Novelty Dice
Decorative or collectible dice — metal, resin, glow-in-the-dark, oversized — that go beyond the plain set that ships in a game box.
Detailed definition
Novelty dice are the ones people collect for their own sake — swirled resin, cast metal, dice that light up or glow after dark, sets shaped like skulls or gemstones instead of plain cubes. None of it changes how the numbers work; it’s the same odds as the plain set in the box, just dressed up.
They don’t show up in what a game requires to play, but they’re a genuinely fun way to make a familiar game feel a little different for one night, especially for a birthday or a milestone session. If you’ve got your own set you love, there’s nothing stopping you from swapping them in for whatever dice came with a rental.
Curious what a fancier set of dice adds to game night?
