GLOSSARY · Sensory & Neurodivergent Play

Neurotypical

The word for a brain that processes the world in whatever way counts as 'typical' — the counterpart to neurodivergent, not a judgment either way.

Detailed definition

Neurotypical just means “not neurodivergent” — it’s a description of how a brain tends to process things, not a compliment or a knock. Most game nights around a real table are a mix: some neurodivergent players, some neurotypical ones, all trying to have a good evening together.

That mix is exactly who the sensory level rating is for. It’s not a warning label aimed at one kind of player — it’s information that helps a neurotypical parent understand why a “simple” party game might be a hard pass for one kid and exactly right for another, without anyone needing to explain why.
