House Rules

A group's own agreed-upon tweaks to a game's official rules, whether to fix a flaw or just because it's more fun their way.

Detailed definition

House rules are whatever a group decides to change about a game’s official rulebook and then just keeps using, every time, without re-litigating it. Sometimes it’s a genuine fix — patching a rule that lets one player run away with the game too easily. Sometimes it’s pure preference, like always dealing an extra card or banning a strategy nobody enjoys losing to.

Nobody needs permission to have house rules, and half the fun of a regular group is watching them accumulate over months of play. The only real requirement is that everyone at the table agrees to them before the game starts, ideally as part of a quick session zero rather than a rule someone springs on the table mid-game. When you rent from us, the box comes with the actual rulebook — what you do with it after that is entirely yours.
