Draw Pile
The face-down stack players pull new cards from during play, sometimes called the stock or the deck.
Detailed definition
The draw pile is exactly what it sounds like: a face-down stack of cards nobody’s seen the order of, waiting to be drawn one at a time as the game goes on. It’s the source of new information and new options every turn, which is part of why so many games build tension around it — you never know exactly what’s coming next, only what’s statistically likely given what’s already gone.
In games with a discard pile sitting alongside it, running out of the draw pile usually means shuffling the discards back in to make a new one — a small moment that resets what’s knowable and keeps the game from grinding to a halt. In a deck-building game, watching your own draw pile shrink and reshuffle is basically watching your strategy come back around for another lap.
