D12
A twelve-sided die with pentagon-shaped faces, giving a wider result range than a D6 or D8 without going all the way to a D20.
Detailed definition
The D12 is a dodecahedron — twelve flat pentagon faces, numbered 1 through 12 — and it’s the least common member of the standard polyhedral dice set. It rolls a little rounder in the hand than the sharper D8 or D10, which people either love or barely notice.
Games reach for a D12 when they want more spread than a D6 but a gentler curve than a D20, often for damage rolls or tables with a dozen possible outcomes. It’s not a die you’ll see every week, but when a listing calls one out, it’s usually a small, deliberate design choice rather than a default.
